PRACTICE TEST

April 24th - April 28th

Welcome Back! I hope that everyone had a relaxing spring break. Only 34 more school days this year!

REMINDERS: If you will not be purchasing the school photos please return them to be turned back in to the office. If you are buying them please bring the remaining pictures back and the completed order form.

Science Fair boards are due THIS FRIDAY! If you finish early you may bring them in before Friday.

Next Thursday is Open House and Science Fair night.


MATH
This week we continue on with area in math. The students will be working on area for two weeks since this chapter has a lot of units.

Monday: Chapter 14-2 Area and Units (Moved to Monday due to Sharkie on Friday)

Tuesday: Chapter 14 -3 Standard Units

Wednesday: 14-4 Area of Squares and Rectangles

Thursday: 14-5 Area and the Distributive Property

Friday: 14-7 Area of Irregular Shapes


PRACTICE SBAC
This week the students will be working on the SBAC test in class. It is only practice and we will be working on getting them familiar with the tests, the tools, and the format of the SBAC. You can be working on this at home as well.

SCIENCE
The students will be presenting their partner projects this week, and then we will work on our last units in Science on Matter.

WRITING
This week starts the new section in writing of opinion piece writing the students will be working on sharing and backing up their opinion on many different subjects. We will be having some of their work on display at Open House.

HOMEWORK
Students will have math, reading journal, and finishing their Science Fair project this week. Some science homework may go home if they did not finish it in class. Keep practicing Flash Cards at home.

Over the break homework

Over this break the students should be hard at work on their Science Fair Project.
The projects are due on Friday April 28th.
They will be presenting them to the class on Monday, April 1st.
Tuesday they will present to the judges.

Students are encouraged to work on the practice tests for SBAC (link in a previous post) we will be working on practice tests in class when we return as well.

Dreambox and Lexia are still available for students to use over the break at home. It is our class goal that all students pass level 14 in Lexia by the end of the school year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break. When we come back to school we only have about 35 days left of school! This year is flying by so quickly!

April 10th - April 14th

Reminder NEXT WEEK is Spring Break and we will not have school. Please return to Northwood on April 24th.

MATH
This week we will be working on Area and Perimeter in math. The students are having some challenges with perimeter. We will be finishing up perimeter this week and starting area. These two sections go hand and hand, so we will continue with perimeter and include some area.

Monday: Chapter 13 review and practice test.
Homework 13-5
Tuesday: In class online test
Wednesday: Chapter Test
Thursday: 14 -1 Covering Regions
Friday: 14-2 Areas and Units

SCIENCE
Students will be working with their partners to finish up their written paper on space. They will be making a model of their planet, or sun, moon, stars, comets in class. They need to gather the materials they want to be using as we will spend Thursday and Friday class time making the model.

WRITING
Students have been working on editing their writing on the Chrome books in class on their expert topic. When we return from Spring Break we will be starting their opinion papers during writing time.

SBAC TESTING
Students will be working on practice Smarter Balanced Testing when we return from Spring Break. It is getting closer to the test and we will be spending time having the students become familiar with the test and the tools of the program. As always you can do these practice tests at home going to the link. I have a blog post further back on how to long in and take the test.

Northwood Parent Workshop Series:
Helping Your Child Succeed in Reading and Writing
3rd-5th grade parents are invited to join us in the Multipurpose Room on
Tuesday, April 11th
from 6:00-7:00pm.
Mrs. Shem will be providing information and resources that parents can use to help their child succeed.

April 3rd - April 7th

This week at Northwood we have our Scholastic Book Fair in the library all week. Our class will be going to it on Wednesday, so students can bring some cash to the fair to buy a book. This Thursday night is PTA Elections as well as Northwood Family Science Night at 6 P.M.

MATH

In math we will be moving away from time and fractions to keep up with the curriculum. Students will be working on perimeter and area for the next three weeks.

Monday: 13-1 Understanding Perimeter
Tuesday: 13-2 Perimeter of Common Shapes
Wednesday: 13-3 Perimeter and Unknown Side Lengths
Thursday: 13-4 Different Shapes with the Same Perimeter
Friday: 13-5 Problem Solving - Solve a Simpler Problem and Make a Table

SCIENCE/READING/WRITING
This week we will continue with our partner planet projects in class. The students will be gathering information from text, internet resources, and their textbooks while working together to create a typed paper using Google Docs.

Science Fair is May 4th. Students were given their planning sheet last Friday. On Monday we will look at it and revise it to keep on track with the planning process.

HOMEWORK
Students will have math, reading journal, and they will be able to work on their science partner project and science fair project.
