Winter Break Homework

This has been a wonderful school year so far, and I hope everyone has a relaxing vacation from school. Over the break the students have many online sources they can access at home.

December 12th - December 16th

The final week before Winter Break. We will not have school from December 19th until January 3rd. When we come back we have our Field Trip to the Tech Museum on Wednesday, January 4th.

This week will be going by quickly with Thursday AND Friday a short minimum day. On Tuesday I will be with the other Third Grade teachers in the District at an all day Training. The students will have a substitute teacher.

Students will be getting out on Thursday at 1 o'lock and Friday at 1 o'clock.

This is a fun week with Awards Assembly on Wednesday, Sky Dome on Thursday, and Friday is our Sing-a-long for students.

In class we will be working on writing, grammar, finishing up Chapter 6 in Math and starting "The Garden of Abdul Gazasi".

There is no spelling homework or Worldy Wise Homework this week.

We will be having Math and Reading Journal this week for homework.

Field Trip Chaperones

Dear Parents,

If you would like to be a chaperone on our Field trips this school year please make sure that you have a current TB test from your doctor. The notice should be in the Front Office on file. I believe they are valid for about four years. Unfortunately if you do not have one you will not be allowed on the field trip. There is still plenty of time to get one to help out this school year on field trips. Thank you to the parents that have volunteered for our Tech Museum Field Trip!

December 5th - December 9th

This Tuesday is our December birthday celebration / 2nd and 3rd Grade awards. If you would like to have your child bring a snack to share for their birthday they can bring it in the morning.

Reminders:
Students need to turn in their permission slips by Wednesday, December 7th so that we can turn in the lunch requests.

Parents if you have said "yes" to chaperoning please make sure you have a current TB test on file in the office. It is mandatory that you have that paper work in the office in order to chaperone on the field trip. 

Next Friday, December 16th is a minimum day and students will be getting out at 1:00 o'clock. 

We will be out of school for two weeks and return Tuesday, January 3rd. Our Field trip is on Wednesday, January 4th.

Reading

We will continue with our Raising Dragon story, and working on some comprehension skills and grammar this week. Students may be coming home with some grammar handouts.

Math 
Once again the students did very well on Chapter 5 math tests. I am very proud of the hard studying they have been doing. This week we continue with the multiplication times tables.

Students will be working on their Social Studies project in class with their groups. Some work will be brought home if they need to work on it more.

Students will be working on Lesson 5 this week. We will have a review week next week for Lessons 1-5.

Social Studies Assignment - Due December 9th

The students are currently working on Native Americans in our Social Studies Unit. They are all broken up into small groups based on their region of either Valley, Desert, Mountain, or Coast. In their groups they were able to select up to two topics from:

Art and Music
Beliefs and Customs
Folklore
Houses
Food
Clothing
Tools
Ways of Travel
Government: Then and Now
Economy
Gift Giving and Trade

Next Friday they will have to do a group presentation of each of these topics. They will need to have a paragraph about each of their topics, and a visual. Some suggestions of a visual were that they create a model of the tool, house, food, or clothing. As well as they could create a play, poster, or comic strip / picture book about their topic. Using pictures from the Internet is not allowed, but if they find something on line they can draw it themselves.

You have the ability to log in and see the grades the student gets on the online quizes.
