May 22nd - May 26th

WE FINISHED SBAC TESTING!

Thank you students for doing so much hard work this school year! I am so proud of all of you for trying your best on the SBAC testing the last two weeks. I can't believe we only have three weeks left of school. It is going by so fast this year.

Math is finishing up with measurement this week then followed by our last unit on Data collection and graphing.

Monday: 15-4 Measuring Mass
Tuesday: 15-5 Draw a Picture
Wednesday: Online Practice Test
Thursday: Paper Test and review

In Science we will be finishing up our last unit on matter and they will do a written project and presentation.

In writing they will continue to work on their opinion piece paper about Third Grade and some other topics.

In class they will be working on an art and writing project of a memory book from this past school year.

Only 14 days left of school!!

Reminder: There is NO SCHOOL next Monday, May 29th.

May 15th - May 19th

This week we will be taking our SBAC Math CAT test and SBAC Math Performance Task. We will again have no homework during this testing week.

In math we will be taking our Area test and then starting with Liquid Volume and Mass.
Monday: Area Test
Tuesday: Ch. 15 -1 Metric Units of Capacity
Wednesday: Ch. 15-2 Measuring Capacity
Thursday: Ch. 15-3 Units of Mass

We will continue on Monday and then have a review Tuesday followed by a practice test.

In Science we will continue working with matter. The students will be working on an in class paper on matter as a project for their grade in this unit. There will not be a test for it. Only the in class paper.


Monday, May 8, 2017

May 8th - May 12th

Well it is finally here! SBAC testing begins this week. For the next two weeks the students will be tested on Math and English Language Arts. Please make sure that the students come to school with a full belly ready to test. It is important that they get plenty of rest during the week. We will have a lighter work load of homework for the next two weeks to keep them happy.

In class they will be working on a memory book for the school year. This will include drawing, coloring, and writing. It will be a great collection of moments from the past 180 days.

For testing students should bring a snack and headphones for the testing.

This week we will be working on the English Language Arts and Performance ELA task. Next week will be Math and the Math Performance task. Testing will be Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and make ups on Friday. It is very important that students arrive to school on time.

In math we will continue to work on area and perimeter. They will do some practice tests and then a paper test later this week. Homework will be lighter the next two weeks during testing.

In science we will continue to work on matter in all of its stages. They will learn about properties of matter and how change occurs. They may have some light science homework this week as well.


Donations: Our classroom is running on empty with our tissues and copy paper.

May 1st - May 5th

So many wonderful and exciting events this week at school.

Thursday, May 4th

1. Spirit Day - Star Wars Day
Students are encouraged to attend school wearing a piece of clothing with Star Wars on it.

2. Open House 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.
Families are encouraged to come take a look in their children's classrooms to see some projects we have worked on this year.

3. Science Fair Night 6:30 - 7:30 in the Multipurpose Room and FIS
Swing by and check out the winning projects and all the projects the students did this year for Science Fair.


MATH
This week we will continue with area and have a practice test for the unit on Friday.
Monday: 14-8 Different Area, Same Perimeter
Tuesday: 14-9 Same Area, Different Perimeter
Wednesday: 14-10 Equal Areas and Fractions
Thursday: 14-11 Selecting Appropriate Measurement Units and Tools
Friday: Review and Practice Test


SCIENCE
This week the students will be presenting their Science Fair project to the class. On Tuesday they will take their project to the judges, and winner will be announced at the Flag Salute on Thursday.

In class we will start our final section on Matter.

PRACTICE SBAC
Next Tuesday we will be starting our official SBAC testing. This week the students will be taking their final practice tests in class. They have worked so hard this school year, and I'm very proud of them all.

WRITING
Students have been working on opinion writing in class. The first topic was on the the best weather, and with that they made some good points. Their writing and art work is up in the classroom.
We will continue to work on opinion pieces until the end of the school year.

HOMEWORK
Students have math and reading journal for their homework.

Welcome Back! I hope that everyone had a relaxing spring break. Only 34 more school days this year!

REMINDERS: If you will not be purchasing the school photos please return them to be turned back in to the office. If you are buying them please bring the remaining pictures back and the completed order form.

Science Fair boards are due THIS FRIDAY! If you finish early you may bring them in before Friday.

Next Thursday is Open House and Science Fair night.


MATH
This week we continue on with area in math. The students will be working on area for two weeks since this chapter has a lot of units.

Monday: Chapter 14-2 Area and Units (Moved to Monday due to Sharkie on Friday)

Tuesday: Chapter 14 -3 Standard Units

Wednesday: 14-4 Area of Squares and Rectangles

Thursday: 14-5 Area and the Distributive Property

Friday: 14-7 Area of Irregular Shapes


PRACTICE SBAC
This week the students will be working on the SBAC test in class. It is only practice and we will be working on getting them familiar with the tests, the tools, and the format of the SBAC. You can be working on this at home as well.

SCIENCE
The students will be presenting their partner projects this week, and then we will work on our last units in Science on Matter.

WRITING
This week starts the new section in writing of opinion piece writing the students will be working on sharing and backing up their opinion on many different subjects. We will be having some of their work on display at Open House.

HOMEWORK
Students will have math, reading journal, and finishing their Science Fair project this week. Some science homework may go home if they did not finish it in class. Keep practicing Flash Cards at home.

Over the break homework

Over this break the students should be hard at work on their Science Fair Project.
The projects are due on Friday April 28th.
They will be presenting them to the class on Monday, April 1st.
Tuesday they will present to the judges.

Students are encouraged to work on the practice tests for SBAC (link in a previous post) we will be working on practice tests in class when we return as well.

Dreambox and Lexia are still available for students to use over the break at home. It is our class goal that all students pass level 14 in Lexia by the end of the school year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break. When we come back to school we only have about 35 days left of school! This year is flying by so quickly!
