September 26th - September 30th

Welcome to the final week of September. I can't believe we are almost in October!

This week we will be starting our Chocolate Touch novel unit, but first we will work on King Midas to show the connection between the two stories. Students will be working on reading comprehension, writing activities, art projects, and learning new spelling and vocabulary words.

Last week we had wanted to finish our group science assignment on the animal habitats, but we had some CELDT testing and now this week we will be presenting the final visual project.

This Friday we will be having our Chapter 2 math test. This chapter is filled with properties of operations in addition, and estimating sums and differences. Practice rounding numbers and working on remembering the halfway number on a number line.

If you had requested the math textbook you can access that information online. Students were given their user name and password to log in to Pearson Realize. On this website you will find the student textbook as well as some exciting math tools.

Dear Parents,

This Thursday is our Back to School Night. Starting from 6 - 8 P.M. in the Multipurpose Room. Come and enjoy a great evening in the newly remodeled Multipurpose room, and take your first peak at the new FIS (Flexible Instructional Space) in the middle of the 300 POD.
The PTA Book Fair is our first event using the FIS and it looks wonderful.
This is a parent only event.
Tonight we will go over the curriculum that will be used in 3rd Grade, as well as going over some classroom rules and procedures.
If you can not attend this event I will be sending home a copy of the PowerPoint handout that I will be using this evening.
I look forward to seeing you all tonight.

Thank you,
Ms. Carabal

Welcome!

Welcome parents and guardians to the 2016 -2017-school year at Northwood Elementary School. It is a joy to have your child in this class. I look forward to meeting you all and getting to know my students. This school year marks my 10th year teaching here at Northwood.

Your child has brought home a lot of paper work that needs to be completed by you and returned as soon as possible. Please make sure that they are signed and initials where required. Emergency forms were mailed home this summer please let me know if you did not receive one.

The students have received a daily planner to keep track of all their homework assignments. One requirement is to have an initial next to the day to show me that they are sharing with you their homework assignments.

Reminder that birthday celebrations are once a month, and not on the day of the birthday. We will be combining the month birthdays with the rest of 3rd grade once a month. More information will be given at Back to School Night.

Back to School Night is going to be in September 14th.

Thursdays are early release day at 1:00 P.M. Flag Salute meetings will be held once a month now. They are not weekly.

Here’s to a great year!

Miss Kristina Carabal
